One of two Turkish Wedgetails active at the same time. This one will no doubt make the news in Greece and Cyprus as it brazenly violates international law and Greek/Cypriot air space. Apart from yet another in-your-face show of defiance it probably also checked in on the research vessel Oruc Reis which is also out there breaking all manner of international law with its an ongoing 'research' mission. They're clearly searching for something but the 5 frigate escort makes me think what they're looking for may not be geological. As it happens the Greek air force's Embraer EMB-145H AEW&C was also out there on the very same mission -- albeit well within the law -- so they must have come close.Operations
