It turns out there are some 150 Dutch soldiers stationed at Mazar I Sharif at Camp Marmal as part of the NATO operation Resolute Support and one of them got wounded on his arm during a shooting exercise and they rushed in to pick him up.

The Dutch also don't fly around with a NAG flight-number/call sign. NAF11 changed to NAG12WN only when they were in Afghani air space. Also on the way back they avoided Ukraine air space (MH17) taking the long way around.
