CommentSo now they're moving heavy equipment to Djibouti and it's moving out of Chania. I'd call that worrying for a number of reasons. First of all it appears to following the worrying trend of a military build up in the area and secondly it also appears to confirm there's a huge build up of American and NATO activity in Greece. Chania is no longer 'just' a US naval base but a hub and launching platform for military actions in Africa and the Gulf area. The US Army appears to have settled in at Stefanovikion near Volos. The US Air Force and NATO partners appears to be moving into Andravida in my backyard here and for some reason it was decided to use Alexandroupoli as a transit point for heavy metal destined for the new US Army base in Constanța which is at a stone-throw from Alexandroupoli and has one of the biggest ports in Europe to boot. In short it's starting to look like Greece is turning into one big military base with Crete and Cyprus acting as stationary aircraft carriers and military hubs.
Unlike many in America I subscribe to the simple logic which holds that the more guns there are in a room the higher the chance of shots being fired. And I, Greece, will be in the line of fire.
It is also obvious the current Greek government is quite chuffed with this state of affairs and can't get enough of it as they think it'll protect us from the intransigent, bellicose and unrelenting Ottoman next door.
